 Suppose a telecommunication company’s booster is emitting a signal of 0.45W, which is being passed through 10 devices. It has been observed that 7 of these devices are encountering noise of 3 microwatts whereas the other 3 devices are encountering noise of 2 microwatts. Considering this information, you are required to calculate the overall Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and SNRdB by writing all necessary formulas and calculation steps.

Solution:

Here we have,

Average signal power =0.45w

Average signal power=0.45x106microwatts=450000 microwatts

Average Noise power for 7 Devices =3 microwatts = 21 microwatts

Average Noise power for 3 Devices= 2 microwatts=6 microwatts

Total Average Noise power=2.7 microwatts

(i)The formula for a signal to Noise Ration (SNR) is:


                     Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR)=Average Signal power / Average signal  power      

                                Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR)=     450000     /  2.7      

                        Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR)=166,666,6 mifcrowatts

ii)

The formula for SNR=is:

                                                      SNRdB= 10 log10SNR

                                                      SNRDb = 10 log10166666.67

                                                                  SNRdB= log10(5.22)

                                                         SNRDb=52.2 approx.
